7th Grade Hebrew - Betsy Zalaznick

Welcome to Seventh Grade Hebrew at Or Chadash Religious School! Students in Seventh Grade will be introduced to modern Hebrew through basic vocabulary and sentence structure folders. Students will be provided an opportunity to read, write, and speak the words and phrases they are learning. Students will be introduced to topics including greeting and responses, the family, food, school, clothing, time, and the park. In addition to modern Hebrew, Seventh Grade students will learn how to write Hebrew letters in script.

In the Seventh Grade Hebrew class students will also learn additional prayers such as the Hashkiveinu, and increase their comfort with the Shabbat evening and morning prayers.

7th Grade Jewish Studies - Rabbi Forman

Welcome to Seventh Grade Jewish Studies at Or Chadash Religious School! We have adopted the CHAI curriculum for our seventh grade Jewish studies class. The CHAI Curriculum is a flexible educational system specifically designed to facilitate lifelong Jewish learning within Reform congregations. The CHAI curriculum concentrates classroom learning on Torah (study), Avodah (worship) and g'milut chasadim (acts of loving-kindness), focusing on the big ideas of the core of Jewish education. Teaching these foundational concepts ensures that student learning will go beyond the specific classroom activities and will lead students to a deeper, enduring understanding, establishing a basis for lifelong Jewish learning and living.

The core curriculum theme for seventh grade is Hineini--What does it mean to be a responsible Jewish adult?

The Essential Question for the Torah strand is:
How do voices of previous generations of Jews help me find myself in the Torah?

The Essential Question for the Avodah strand is:
What are the prayers, ceremonies, and practices that define us as Jews?

The Essential Questions for the G'milut Chasadim strand are:
How can middot lead to acts of g'milut chasadim?
What are middot essential to living as a Reform Jew?

Each week, Tzedakah money will be collected in class. The students will understand that tzedakah means doing acts of justice and righteousness, and at various times during the year they will help decide how and where the class tzedakah funds will be used.
