This week at Or Chadash - 3/3/10
Mar. 4, 2010
This week Or Chadash launched our new Facebook page. I was so excited about this new development that I wanted to share a little bit about this in my weekly article. I thought to myself: Before I write this week's article on our new Facebook page, I should do a little research on Jewish social-networking media. Perhaps, I hoped, I might discover some wisdom about Facebook and how it is being used by other congregations. I promptly Googled "Jewish Social Networking Reform Synagogues".

The first hit that caught my eye was the Facebook page of Synagogue 3000! If you are not familiar with Synagogue 3000 (an initiative of the Union for Reform Judaism), it is "...a catalyst for excellence, empowering congregations and communities to create synagogues that are sacred and vital centers of Jewish life."

The work of Synagogue 3000 reveales how significant a tool Facebook can be for a congregation seeking new avenues to unite its members as a community. Jewish social-networking has never been easier! Indeed, like any social media tool, Facebook can be useful - as long as we think carefully about how we're going to use it and work it into our overall communication plan.

We are entering this journey together. Please become a fan of the Or Chadash Facebook group so together we can create yet another opportunity to enrich our community as Beit Knesset - a House of Gathering - whether it is in the sanctuary, in a classroom, at a social or social action event, or even in the wide world of the web!

Shalom,

Rabbi Joseph M. Forman
